Kootenay Lake is the largest natural lake in southern British Columbia cradled within the Selkirk Mountains and bordered by the Purcells to the east. The area around Kootenay Lake is largely wilderness, where wildlife that could be encountered includes deer, elk, moose, black bears, foxes, raccoons, coyotes, cougars and mountain goats. Wetlands at Crawford Bay and the north and south ends of Kootenay Lake provide habitat for migrating and nesting birds including swans, pelicans and the Canada goose. Enjoy fishing, golfing, boating, hiking, swimming, and exploring the many attractions and artisans in the surrounding communities. See links for more area information.
